Meaning of Sah Jang

Taegeuk SAH Jang symbolizes the "Jin", one of the 8 divination signs. Jin represents thunder  - which in turn represents great power and dignity. New techniques found in this taegeuk are sonnal momtongmakki, pyonsonkkeuttzireugi, jebipoom mokchigi, yopchagi, momtong bakkatmakki, deungjumeok olgulapchigi, It is characterized by various movements in preparation for kyorugi (full contact sparring) whilst also emphasising dwitkubi seogi. This poomsae is practiced by 5th Kup-grade trainees and above.

JUMBI

Starting with your feet together and your hands by your side open the hands whilst simultaneously lifting them to your solar plexus, then lowering and closing the fists to groin level . At the same time the feet are seperated to a shoulders width into naranhi seogi. These movements are all executed at the same time finishing in kibon jumbi seogi (basic ready stance).

MOVEMENT 1

Step and turn the left foot to the left through 90 degrees moving the left foot into oreun dwitkubi (right side stance), and execute a sonnal momtongmakki (double Knife hand mid-section block)

MOVEMENT 2

Step forward with the right foot into oreun apkubi (right forward stance), whilst stepping execute a nullomakki (pressing block). As soon as the right foot touches the ground deliver a pyonsonkkeut sewo tzireugi (open hand fingertip thrust)

MOVEMENT 3

Step and turn the right foot to the right through 180 degrees moving the right foot into wen dwitkubi (right side stance), and execute a sonnal momtongmakki (double Knife hand mid-section block)

MOVEMENT 4

Step forward with the left foot into wen apkubi (left forward stance), whilst stepping execute a nullomakki (pressing block). As soon as the left foot touches the ground deliver a pyonsonkkeut sewo tzireugi (open hand fingertip thrust)

MOVEMENT 5

Step the left foot out and turn to the left through 90 degrees anticlockwise into wen apkubi (left long stance) and immediately deliver a jebipoom mokchigi (Knife hand high section block and a knife hand strike to the neck)

MOVEMENT 6

attack the groin with an oreunbal apchagi (right front kick) and move forwards into an oreun apkubi (right front stance). As soon as the foot touches the ground deliver a momtong barojireugi (mid-section reverse punch) to the solar plexus.

MOVEMENT 7

attack the mid section with a oreunbal yopchagi (right side kick to the mid section)

MOVEMENT 8

as soon as the right foot touches the gound deliver a wenbal yopchagi (left side kick). The kicking foot then lands in wen dwitkubi (left side stance) and execute a sonnal momtongmakki (knife hand mid-section block)

MOVEMENT 9

move the left foot and turn to the left through 270 degrees into oreun dwitkubi (right side stance), and execute a momtong bakkat makki (mid-section outer block)

MOVEMENT 10

deliver an oreunbal apchagi (right front kick) to the mid section returning the kicking foot to the original position into oreun dwitkubi (right side stance), and execute a momtong anmakki (mid-section inner block)

MOVEMENT 11

Retaining the feet in their positions but turning the whole body through 180 degrees clockwise into wen dwitkubi (left side stance) execute a momtong bakkat makki (mid-section outer block),

MOVEMENT 12

deliver a wenbal apchagi (left front kick) to the mid section returning the kicking foot to the original position into wen dwitkubi (left side stance), and execute a momtong anmakki (mid-section inner block)

MOVEMENT 13

movng the left foot first turn to the left through 90 degrees into wen apkubi (left forward stance) and immediately deliver a jebipoom mokchigi (Knife hand high section block and a knife hand strike to the neck)

MOVEMENT 14

Deliver an oreunbal apchagi (right front kick) to the mid section moving forwards into an oreun apkubi (right front stance) and deliver a deungjumeok apchigi (back fist) to the nasal area.

MOVEMENT 15

move the left foot and turn to the left through 90 degrees anticlockwise into wen apseogi (left walking stance) and block with a momtong makki (mid-section inward outer forearm block)

MOVEMENT 16

retaining the stance in wen apseogi (left walking stance) deliver a momtong barojireugi (mid section reverse punch) 

MOVEMENT 17

move the right foot and turn to the right through 180 degrees clockwise into oreun apseogi (right walking stance) and block with a momtong makki (mid-section inward outer forearm block)

MOVEMENT 18

retaining the stance in oreun apseogi (right walking stance) deliver a momtong barojireugi (mid section reverse punch) 

MOVEMENT 19

move the left foot and turn to the left through 90 degrees anticlockwise into wen apkubi (left front stance) and perform a momtongmakki (mid-section block) and consecutively deliver a momtong dubeon jireugi (mid-section punch twice). Once with a momtong baro jireugi (mid section reverse punch) and then with a momtong bandae jireugi (mid section front punch), both to the solar plexus.

MOVEMENT 20

step forward with the right foot into oreun apkubi (right front stance) and perform a momtongmakki (mid-section block) and consecutively deliver a momtong dubeon jireugi (mid-section punch twice). Once with a momtong baro jireugi (mid section reverse punch) and then with a momtong bandae jireugi (mid section front punch), both to the solar plexus. On delivering the final punch shout KIHAP using the gut as the source of energy.
