Meaning of Yuk Jang

Taegeuk YUK Jang symbolizes the "Kam", one of the 8 divination signs. Kam represents water, meaning incessant flow and softness. New movements found within this taegeuk are hansonnal olgul bitureo makki, dollyo-chagi, olgul bakkat-makki, arae hecho makki, and batangson momtong-makki. One should ensure that the kicking foot lands on the ground correctly after dollyo-chagi and that the hand is lowered by a palm's desitance at the time a batangson momtong-makki is deleivered lower than in the palmok-makki. This poomsae is practiced by 3rd Kup-grade trainees and above.

JUMBI

Starting with your feet together and your hands by your side open the hands whilst simultaneously lifting them to your solar plexus, then lowering and closing the fists to groin level . At the same time the feet are seperated to a shoulders width into naranhi seogi. These movements are all executed at the same time finishing in kibon jumbi seogi (basic ready stance).

MOVEMENT 1

Turn to the left through 90 degrees anticlockwise moving the left foot into wen apkubi (left long stance) and execute a wen arae makki (left low section block)

MOVEMENT 2

Deliver an oreunbal ap-chagi (right front kick) and immediately bring the kicking foot back into a wen dwitkubi (left side stance) and execute a momtong bakkatmakki (mid-section outer forearm block)

MOVEMENT 3

Move the right foot out half a step whilst simultaneously turning the body through 180 degrees clockwise into oreun apkubi (right front stance) and execute an oreun arae makki (right low section block)

MOVEMENT 4

Deliver a wenbal ap-chagi (left front kick) and immediately bring the kicking foot back into oreun dwitkubi (right side stance) and execute a momtong bakkatmakki (mid-section outer forearm block)

MOVEMENT 5

turn the body through 90 degrees anticlockwise whilst also stepping the left foot out into wen apkubi (left front stance) execute an oreun hansonnal bitureo-makki (right knife handed twisting block) and immediately

MOVEMENT 6

deliver an oreunbal olgul dollyo-chagi (right turning kick to the face), put the kicking foot forward one step and half and immediately step the left foot to the left turning the body 90 degrees anticlockwise into wen apkubi (left front stance) and execute olgul bakkat-makki (high section outer forearm block) followed by a momtong baro-jireugi (mid-section reverse punch)

MOVEMENT 7

Deliver an oreunbal ap-chagi (right front kick) stepping forwards into oreun apkubi (right front stance) and deliver a momtong baro-jireugi (mid-section reverse punch)

MOVEMENT 8

step the right foot and turn the body through 180 degrees clockwise to completelty turn around into oreun apkubi (right front stance) and execute olgul bakkat-makki (high section outer forearm block) followed by a momtong baro-jireugi (mid-section reverse punch)

MOVEMENT 9

Deliver an wenbal ap-chagi (left front kick) stepping forwards into wen apkubi (left front stance) and deliver a momtong baro-jireugi (mid-section reverse punch)

MOVEMENT 10

look to the left, keeping the right foot at it's place, pull the left foot towards the right into naranhi-seogi (parallel stance) and execute an arae hecho-makki (outer pushing block)

MOVEMENT 11

Step the right foot out into oreun apkubi (right front stance) and immediately execute a wen hansonnal bitureo-makki (left knife handed twisting block) and immediately

MOVEMENT 12

deliver a wenbal dollyochagi (left turning kick) ("shouting "Kihap" when the kick hits the imaginary target), move the kicking foot forward one step and half and immediately step the right foot to the right turning the body 90 degrees anticlockwise into oreun apkubi (right front stance) and execute olgul bakkat-makki (high section outer forearm block) followed by a momtong baro-jireugi (mid-section reverse punch)

MOVEMENT 13

Deliver a wenbal ap-chagi (left front kick) and immediately bring the kicking foot back into oreun dwitkubi (right side stance) and execute a momtong bakkatmakki (mid-section outer forearm block)

MOVEMENT 14

Move the left foot out half a step whilst simultaneously turning the body through 180 degrees anticlockwise into wen apkubi (left front stance) and execute a wen arae makki (left low section block)

turn the right foot and the body anticlockwise stepping the right foot into oreun dwitkubi (right back stance) and execute a sonnal momtong-makki (knife hand mid section block)

MOVEMENT 17

step backwards with the left foot into wen dwitkubi (left back stance) and immediately execute a sonnal momtong-makki (mid-section knife hand block)

MOVEMENT 18

step the right foot back into wen apkubi (left front stance) and execute a wen batangson momtong-makki (left palm hand mid-section block) followed by a momtong baro-jireugi (mid-section reverse punch)

MOVEMENT 19

step the left foot back into oreun apkubi (right front stance) and execute an oreun batangson momtongmakki (right palm hand mid-section block)  followed by a momtong baro-jireugi (mid-section reverse punch)
