Meaning of Chil Jang

Taegeuk 7 Jang symbolizes the "Kan", one of the 8 divination signs. Kan represents the mountain, meaning solidity and firmness. New movements found within this form are sonnal araemakki, batangson kodureomakki, bojumeok kawimakki, mureupchigi, momtong hechomakki, dujumeok jeocho jireugi, arae otkoreo makki, deungjumeok bakkat chigi, pyojeok-chagi, yop-jireugi and such stances as beomseogi and juchumseogi. A smooth connection of movement is important for training. This poomsae is practiced by 2nd Kup-grade trainees and above.

JUMBI

Starting with your feet together and your hands by your side open the hands whilst simultaneously lifting them to your solar plexus, then lowering and closing the fists to groin level . At the same time the feet are seperated to a shoulders width into naranhi seogi. These movements are all executed at the same time finishing in kibon jumbi seogi (basic ready stance).

MOVEMENT 1

Turn to the left through 90 degrees anticlockwise into wen beom-seogi (left cat stance) and execute an oreun batangson momtong an-makki (right palm hand mid-section inner block)

MOVEMENT 2

Deliver an oreunbal ap-chagi (right front kick), and immediately bring the foot back into wen beom-seogi (left cat stance) and execute a wen momtong-makki (left mid-section outer forearm block)

MOVEMENT 3

Turn to the right through 180 degrees clockwise moving the right foot first into oreun beom-seogi (right cat stance) and execute a wen batangson momtong an-makki (left palm hand mid-section inner block)

MOVEMENT 4

Deliver a wenbal ap-chagi (left front kick), and immediately bring the foot back into oreun beom-seogi (right cat stance) and execute an oreun momtong-makki (right mid-section outer forearm block)

MOVEMENT 5

step and turn to the left through 90 degrees into wen dwitkubi (left back stance) and execute sonnal arae-makki (Knife hand low section block)

MOVEMENT 6

Step forwards with the right foot into wen dwitkubi (left backward stance) and execute sonnal arae-makki (knife hand low section block),

MOVEMENT 7

Turn to the left through 90 degrees moving the left foot first into wen beom-seogi (left cat stance) and execute batangson kodureo momtong an-makki (assisted palm hand mid-section inner block)

MOVEMENT 8

twist the upper part of the body anticlockwise whilst drawing back the right fist to the left ear and use impulsive power of twisting clockwise to deliver deungjumeok olgul ap-chigi (front back fist strike) whilst leaving the assisting fist in its assisting position.

MOVEMENT 9

Step the right foot and turn through 180 degrees clockwise into oreun beom-seogi (right cat stance) and execute batangson kodureo momtong an-makki (assisted palm hand mid-section inner block)

MOVEMENT 10

twist the upper part of the body clockwise whilst drawing back the left fist to the right ear and use impulsive power of twisting suddenly anticlockwise to deliver deungjumeok olgul ap-chigi (front back fist strike) whilst leaving the assisting fist in its assisting position.

MOVEMENT 11

turn through 90 degrees anticlockwise, draw the left foot to the right into moa seogi (close stance), and simultaneously wrap the left hand over the right fist leaving a paper thickness of a gap between the two into bojumeok (wrapped up fist) and draw this up to neck level.

MOVEMENT 12

Step forwards with the left foot into wen apkubi (left long stance) and execute kawi-makki (scissors defence) (to be repeated)

MOVEMENT 13

Step forward with the right foot into oreun apkubi (right long stance) and and execute kawi-makki (scissors defence)

MOVEMENT 14

moving the left foot first tun through 270 degrees anticlockwise into wen apkubi (left long stance) and immediately execute momtong hecho-makki (mid-section pushing block),

MOVEMENT 15

Open both hands and stretch out the arms to grasp the opponent's head, pulling down the head to deliver an oreunbal mureup-chigi (right knee strike). Immediately jump forward into wenbal dwikkoa-seogi (left backward cross stance) and dujumeok jecho jireugi (twin upper punch)

MOVEMENT 16

Bring the left foot back into oreun apkubi (right long stance) and execute otkoreo arae-makki (outer wrist underneath cross block)

MOVEMENT 17

move the right foot first to turn through 180 degrees clockwise into oreun apkubi (right long stance) and execute momtong hecho-makki (mid-section pushing block)

MOVEMENT 18

Open both hands and stretch out the arms to grasp the opponent's head, pulling down the head to deliver an wenbal mureup-chigi (left knee strike). Immediately jump forward into oreunbal dwikkoa-seogi (right backward cross stance) and dujumeok jecho jireugi (twin upper punch)

moving the left foot first turn the body through 90 degrees anticlockwise into wen ap-seogi (left forward stance) and execute deungjumeok bakkat-chigi (back fist strike to the temple)

MOVEMENT 21

Open the left hand whilst simultaneously lift the right foot up to deliver a pyojeok-chagi (target kick) to the hand. moving forwards twist the whole body through 180 degrees and land the right foot in  juchum-seogi (horseriding stance) and execute oreun palkup pyojeok-chigi (right elbow strike targeting the open left hand)

MOVEMENT 22

Twist the right foot but leave in the same location whilst slightly pulling the left foot to make oreun ap-seogi (right walking stance) and deliver a  deungjumeok olgul bakkat-chigi (back fist strike to the temple)

MOVEMENT 23

"Na" direction, lift left foot, deliver a pyojeok-chagi (target kick), make a  juchum-seogi (riding stance) and deliver a wenpalkup pyojeok-chigi (left wrist target hit) (23-1,lateral view and 23-2)

Open the left hand whilst simultaneously lift the left foot up to deliver a pyojeok-chagi (target kick) to the hand. moving forwards twist the whole body through 180 degrees and land the left foot in  juchum-seogi (horseriding stance) and execute wen palkup pyojeok-chigi (left elbow strike targeting the open right hand)

MOVEMENT 24

Retaining the stance in juchum seogi (horseriding stance) execute wen hansonnal yop-makki (left Knife hand block to the side)

MOVEMENT 25

grab and pull the opponent with the left hand, step forward with the right foot twisting the body through 180 degrees anticloackwise into juchum-seogi (horse riding stance) and deliver momtong yop-jireugi (mid-section side punch)

keep right foot as it is turn the body through 90 degrees anticlockwise, pull the left foot towards the right and return to the jumbi-seogi (ready stance).
