Taegeuk 8 Jang symbolizes the "Kon", one of the 8 divination signs. Kon represents "Yin" and earth, meaning the root and settlement and also the begining and the end. This is the last of the 8 Taegeuk poomsaes, which should enable the trainee to undergo the Dan(black belt) promotion test. New movements are dubal dangseong apchagi, momtong kodureo bakkatmakki, arae kodureo makki, twiochagi, and palkup dollyochigi. Emphasis must be laid on the accuracy of stepping and the difference between jumping-over kick and dubal-dangsong (alternate jumping kick in the air). This poomsae is practiced by 1st Kup-grade trainees and above.
Starting with your feet together and your hands by your side open the hands whilst simultaneously lifting them to your solar plexus, then lowering and closing the fists to groin level . At the same time the feet are seperated to a shoulders width into naranhi seogi. These movements are all executed at the same time finishing in kibon jumbi seogi (basic ready stance).
Step forwards with the left foot into oreun dwitkubi (right back stance) and execute kodureo bakkat-makki (assisted outer block)
push the left foot further forward into wen apkubi (left front stance) and execute momtong baro-jireugi (mid-section reverse punch)
Kicking with the right foot first execute dubal dangsong ap-chagi (two feet alternate front kick) as soon as the right kick makes contact with the opponent push forwards with the left foot to execute the second front kick to the face (on the second kick shout Kihap), landing two steps forward into wen apkubi (left long stance) and immediatek execute a momtong makki (mid-section block) and deliver momtong dubeon jireugi (two mid-section punches)
Step forwards with the right foot into oreun apkubi (right front stance) and deliver a momtong bandae-jireugi (mid-section punch)
Move the left foot to turn through 90 degrees anticlockwise into oreun apkubi (right front stance) and execute wesanteul makki (single handed, wide open block) looking towards the left.
Retaining the location of the feet twist the body through 180 degrees and then slide the left foot into wen apkubi (left forward stance) and deliver a dangkyo teok-jireugi (pulling the jaw punch) This attack is executed in slow motion with a concentration of force through the entire attack.
Step the left foot over the right foot into ap kkoa-seogi (front cross stance), then move right foot into wen apkubi (left forward stance) and execute wesanteul makki (single handed wide open block) whilst looking to the right

Move the left foot and turn through 90 degrees anticlockwise into wen beom-seogi (left cat stance) and execute sonnal momtong-makki (mid section double knife hand block)
