Taegeuk IL Jang represents the symbol of “Keon”, one of the 8 Kwaes (divination signs). Keon symobolises the heaven and “yang”. As “Keon” symbolizes the beginning of the creation of all things in the universe. Taegeuk IL jang therefore symbolises the beginning of training in Taekwondo. This poomsae is charaterized by its simplicity to learn and practice. It largely consists of walking and basic actions, such as arae-makki,momtong-makkimomtong-jireugi and ap-chagi. This poomsae is practiced by 8th Kup-grade trainees and above.
